During their stay, Jonathan Webb, one of Shermans aides, falls in love with Dr. Morgans younger daughter, Lucinda. In the war between North and South, when these two young people should be enemies, instead they find their relationship growing. Neither the general nor the doctor are pleased, and try to discourage the couple. Lucinda is drawn more and more to Jonathan, and they fight to be together. The Union troops eventually move out of Waterloo, but Jonathan becomes ill and Sherman musters him out of the Army. Jonathan returns to the Morgan home for surgery and recuperation. As a father, Dr. Morgan watches Jonathan and Lucindas love grow, but he must decide whether he will give his blessing to their relationship. Love Your Enemy speaks in human terms about the devastation of war. Yet even in the midst of great conflict, love is still able to bloom. Carol A. LaCroix is a history buff who based this novel on a true story, but the doctors name was Sullivan. She lives in northwest Alabama and has started writing her next book.
